This course is designed to provide law enforcement personnel with essential skills and knowledge for effectively using red dot sights on their firearms. Participants will receive hands-on training in the installation, adjustment, care / maintenance, and operation of red dot optics, emphasizing accuracy and rapid target acquisition. The course will also cover safety protocols, legal considerations regarding the use of deadly force, and situational decision-making through practical scenarios.

At the end of this training/course, the participant/trainee will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the proper way to install and adjust red dot sights on firearms.
  • How to care and maintenance red dot sights on firearms.
  • Describe the steps in safely handling firearms equipped with red dot optics.
  • Provide the necessary legal framework for the use of deadly force in law enforcement scenarios.
  • Analyze shooting scenarios to determine appropriate decision-making (shoot/don't shoot) based on situational context.
  • Implement effective target acquisition and engagement techniques using red dot sights.

Successful Course Completion: 

  • Assessments: Participants must show proficiency and functional knowledge of instructed course material, including safety guidelines, legal use of deadly force, and operational procedures regarding red dot sights.
  • Practical Demonstrations: Participants will demonstrate proficiency in handling firearms equipped with red dot sights through live fire exercises.
  • Remediation Plan: If a participant fails to show proficiency in the course and continued improvement with the practical demonstrations, they will be required to attend a remediation session. This session will review the key concepts and skills, followed by a re-evaluation of their performance.
